Course summary

Media Representations You will study a range of media from different sectors, such as music videos, short film extracts, animation, news programmes, websites, digital games and print adverts in order to explore how meaning, messages and values are constructed through formal and stylistic elements. Develop a Pre-Production Portfolio. You will create a portfolio and manage the pre- production for your own creative media production. Respond to a commission In this unit, you will understand how to respond to a commission brief with ideas based on the required content, style, audience, purpose and approach proposed by the client. You will research and write a proposal for your idea. You will also deliver a pitch on your final choice. Film Production–Fiction You will prepare for a film production by creating and gathering the materials and preparing the cast and crew. You will then shoot and edit your final piece.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs, at grade 4 or above -including English and maths. Grade 4 in Media or merit in Creative Media L2 BTEC

How you'll be assessed

Examination: Unit 1 is assessed via an exam. This takes place at the end of each academic year. Students will complete this in Year 12. Response to a brief: Unit 8 is assessed by students responding to a brief. This takes the format of a controlled assessment undertaken over a number of weeks. Students will have a number of hours to complete tasks associated with the brief. Externally assessed coursework: Unit 4 is assessed via a coursework module. This is submitted to the exam board for marking Internally assessed coursework: Unit 10 is assessed internally by the centre. This is a portfolio of coursework for a film unit.
