Course summary

The UK government reported that the creative industries were worth £9.6 million an hour to the UK economy. The games industry is an important part of the UK creative industries and figures report that the global video games market generated $91 billion. The UK is a major player in this global industry and is renowned for producing market-leading and award-winning video games. This course will take you on a journey of digital creation. Starting at exploring various digital media software such as Photoshop and creating your own concept art to realising your vision as you model your environments into three dimensions with 3DS Max. Finally, implementing your models and scripting your own mechanics in Unreal engine, an industry standard video game package on which some of the biggest titles in the industry are currently running. This course is highly creative and requires an inquisitive visual mind and imagination. Researching and using references to inspire your own work will become a second nature to you as you create your own imaginary concepts, only to bring it to life through 3D modelling. The work is highly independent and practical, you will spend a lot of time sketching, designing, and testing your own creations using both traditional and digital techniques.

Entry requirements

A background in creative subjects such as Art or DT would be very beneficial to help create your ideas but is not essential provided, you’re imaginative and adaptable. A genuine passion and love for all things video games is a must.
