Course summary

Qualification Code 60149115 Computing is the study of how computers and computer systems work and exist. It also studies how these are constructed and programmed. Computing allows for students to better understand the concepts of modern technologies and the connections of these within the fast growing and fast paced environment of Computer Science. The advanced GCE is composed of 3 mandatory units. Two of which are externally assessed Paper 1 and Paper 2 and Non Exam assessment which is internally assessed. This specification encourages candidates to develop their knowledge and understanding of computer systems, the principles of computing (including basic programming skills in low level language) and it also encourages candidates to gain an understanding of methods related to computer systems, as well as maintenance and improvement of computer systems and the use of algorithms and test strategies. The coursework component reflects the application of knowledge gained through the previous years and is applied in the consideration of a particular problem, often student specific, providing a high order language solution

Entry requirements

Grade 7 GCSE Computing and Mathematics Five GCSE grades at 5 or higher , including a 5 for Mathematics and English An average GCSE points score of 5.5, or better if studying 3 A Levels or 8.0, or better if studying 4 A Levels
