Course summary
This course is equivalent to 1 A Level and will be studied alongside 2 additional A Level (or equivalent) subjects. Health and Social care is an ideal course for those who wish to pursue a career in the Health Care or Social Care sectors. There are more than 300 distinct career paths in this sector which is a major employer, employing almost four million people across the UK. There is a high percentage of internally assessed coursework, which may appeal to students who prefer a more continuous approach to assessment. The external assessments may be in the form of a written examination, but may also be a set task which is completed during a defined window. There will be an external exam at the end of Year 12. Students will be encouraged and supported to participate in work experience as part of the course in order to develop a better understanding of the demands of working in the sector and to enhance university, employment or apprenticeship applications.
