Course Outline / Topics Media Studies gives students the chance to develop a critical understanding of the role of the media in daily life. It encourages an understanding of how to use key concepts to analyse media products and combines elements of Politics, Sociology, Art and Design, History and Economics and is rich in cross curricular links. Students develop critical thinking decision making and evaluative skills. It also offers the opportunity for hands on practical work where they assume Media roles. Students learn pre-production and planning skills like storyboarding, scripting, flat plans, news selection and production skills of photography, filming, editing and design publishing. Crucially they develop an understanding of new technology in a rapidly changing world. A-level Media Studies engages students in the in-depth study of media products. The practical element provides students with a portfolio that showcases their creative talents for university or career interviews.
