This is a practical, hand-on course exploring textile production and design with an emphasis on developing strong art and design skills. Students will be introduced to a variety of experiences that explore a range of textile media, processes and techniques. They will be made aware of both traditional and new media. Students may use sketchbooks, workbooks or journals to underpin their work where appropriate. A personal final piece is produced based on experiments on one or more of these areas: - fashion textiles, printed and/or dyed, fabric and materials, constructed textile and art textiles. Students will also explore relevant images, artefacts and other sources relating to a range of art, craft and design, from the past and from recent times, including European and non-European examples; visit galleries and shows as part of their research. Much of the work produced will reflect student aspiration into further studies or a career in this field of work. In the second year, they are working towards course completion and external exams.
