Course Outline / Topics Year 12 - Autumn Term & Spring Term Circles & Stripes, Still Life, Sense of Space and Portraits You will begin by studying the work of photographers, such as Irving Penn and Stephanie Gonot and exploring the above themes, to gain skills in both photographic and editing techniques. You will learn about presentation into sketchbooks. You will analyse the work of photographers and take photographs of your own inspired by their photos. As this is an Art and Design endorsement there is opportunity to be creative, outside of just digital editing. All skills learnt will prepare you for your coursework project. Year 12 - Summer Term & Year 13 Autumn and Spring Terms Personal Investigation You will chose a theme of your own and create a whole set of project work based on that theme. The Personal Investigation also includes a written related study of between 1000 and 3000 words, including photographic work.
The A Level grade for Art & Design is made up of 60% Personal Investigation and 40% Externally Set Task. Homework is marked weekly and at the end of each project, a final mark will be given. All work is marked in line with the exam board’s four assessment objectives (AO): AO1 Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding AO2 Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops AO3 Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress AO4 Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements
