Course summary

A level Psychology is a two-year course that looks at many areas of society such as relationships, health, crime and ethics. They use scientific methods and knowledge about human mind and behaviour to help deal with practical problems such as helping people overcome depression, stress, trauma or phobias. What causes aggression? Why do some people have phobias? How does memory work? Why do some people suffer from mental illness? Why do people conform? Psychology looks at questions like these in the study of the human mind and behaviour. It is a science with innovative research that has real world applications to issues in everyday life, ranging from criminal justice, relationships, medical treatments through to social change. Year 12: Component 1 Introductory topics in Psychology is made up of Social Influence, Memory and Attachments. Component 2 Psychology in context is made up of Approaches to Psychology, which includes Biopsychology, Research Methods and Psychopathology Year 13 The Issues and Options Year 2 component includes:  Topic 1: Relationships  Topic 2: Schizophrenia  Topic 3: Forensic Psychology As well as compulsory components: Biopsychology, Research Methods and Issues and Debates in Psychology.
