
Year on year the sport and active leisure sector outperforms the rest of the UK economy; this has been a trend since the end of the economic recession of the late 1990s, and researchers predict this will continue to be the case for years to come, long after the sports legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games. The course is taught over two years and is 67% externally assessed through a written examination and an external written task and 33% internally assessed through coursework in the form of various assignments. The qualifications are graded at pass, merit, distinction or distinction* level and these grades are broadly the same as a grade C to A at ‘A’ level. The qualification is the equivalent to one ‘A’ Level. The four units to be studied during the course are: Unit 1* (Year 12): Anatomy and Physiology (external examination) Unit 2* (Year 12): Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (external written task) Unit 3* (Year 13): Professional Development in the Sports Industry Unit 5 (Year 13): Application of fitness testing Additional Qualifications available through the Directorate: Broadway School Sixth Form will also give you practical sport qualifications that include: Level 3 Sports Leadership (Year 12 and Year 13) Duke of Edinburgh Award (Silver– Year 12/13)
Grade C in English Language and Maths (desirable) Grade C or above in Biology
The units are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. The overall qualification is graded as P, M, D, D* Learners must pass each unit in order to pass the qualification. The learner is allowed one re-sit/re-take for each unit in the qualification.
