A Level Chemistry
Course summary
In Year 12 students study for an AS Level in Chemistry with AQA. This involves the study of three units; Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry which are assessed through examination. Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be examined in May/June on each academic year. All Units are equally weighted. In Year 13 students study for an A Level in Chemistry with AQA. This involves the study of further three units; Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry which are assessed through examination. Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3 will be examined in May/June of each academic year. Year 12 Section 1 (Physical Chemistry): Atomic structure, amount of substance, bonding, Energetics, Kinetics, Equilibria, Redox Section 2 (Inorganic Chemistry) Periodicity, Group 2 Alkaline Earth Metals, Group 7 Halogens, relevant practical skills Section 3 (Organic Chemistry) Introduction to Organic Chemistry, Alkanes, Halogenoalkanes, Alkenes, Alcohols, Organic Analysis Year 13 Section 1 (Physical Chemistry): Thermodynamics, Kinetics, Equilibrium Constant Kp, Electrode Potentials, Acids & Bases Section 2 (Inorganic Chemistry) Periodicity, Transition Metals, Reactions of Inorganic Compounds Section 3 (Organic Chemistry) Nomenclature & Isomerism, Carbonyl Groups, Aromatic Chemistry, Amines, Polymerisation, Amino Acids, Proteins & DNA, Organic Synthesis, Structure Determination, Chromatography
