Course summary
What will you study in Year 12? Students will develop an understanding of the language and communicate confidently, clearly and effectively in the language for a range of purposes. The topics to be studied are aspects of German-speaking society (changes in family life, the digital world, youth culture), and artistic culture in the German speaking world (festivals and traditions, German art and architecture, cultural life in Berlin). Students will also undertake a detailed study of a film (Good bye Lenin) and begin to study a work of literature (Der Vorleser). What will you study in Year 13? The skills and knowledge acquired in Year 12 will be taken to a higher level through the study of the following topics: Multiculturalism in German-speaking society (immigration, Integration, Racism), and aspects of political life in the German- speaking world (Germany and the European Union, politics and youth, German reunification and its consequences). Students will continue to study a work of literature and prepare an individual research project for the speaking test.

Assessment
Students will be tested regularly on their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and on their knowledge of grammatical structures. There are 3 examinations: Listening, reading and writing; Writing; and Speaking.
