Course summary

If you want a course that offers diversity and if you have an interest in how words work, then this is the course for you. You will learn about the lexical and grammatical ‘building blocks’ of language. You will explore language production and variation through writing in different forms and through textual analysis. You will develop your understanding of how language creates meanings in written, spoken and electronic modes of communication. In addition, you will discover how children learn to speak, read and write and how language has changed since 1600 and continues to change. You will engage in debates about the nature and significance of language and society and how it helps to define our understanding of the world.
