Now you can make your imagination reality with BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Forensic and Criminal Investigation This new course will give you the opportunity to learn the skills of the trade from finger printing to genetic analysis, from murder scene investigation to the proceedings of the court room. This course can lead to forensics courses at university or other scientific disciplines such as biomedical science or nursing. The Nitty Gritty This course is worth 2 A level equivalents. Entry requirements - There is a stong focus on mathematical skills, independence, time management and report writing. For this reason a high level of ability in English and maths is required. A student with high levels of punctuality and attendance is also preferred. It is recommended that students that have at least a 5 in maths and a 5 in English language as well as a 5-5 in combined science or triple science to access the course. However, we will often relax these entry requirements for candidates that are driven to enter the world of forensics that demonstrate maturity and independence. The course - Formed of 8 Units UNIT 1, 2, 3 and 8 - are common to BTEC Applied Science and cover a range of practical skills and knowledge relevant to all practical sciences. - 2 units are coursework based and require you to meet deadlines. 2 units are examination based. UNIT 4-5-6 and one optional unit - are forensics and criminology focused - 2 units are assignment based including court proceedings, investigating a crime scene, fire investigation and road traffic accidents. We will also look at criminology in one unit which is part of psychology. This course would ideally be taken along side an A level in maths, chemistry, psychology or biology.
