Course Content - 4 units are studied 1- Principles and applications of science – Assessed through 3 short 40min external exams. Covers a small selection of topics in Biology, chemistry and physics to A level standard 2- Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques - Assessed though 4 assignments The 4 assignments are a) Titration and colourimetry b) Cooling curves c) Chromatography d) Personal development 3-Science Investigation Skills -Assessed through 2 hour exam. – This unit covers how science is carried out in 5 main areas, circuits, diffusion, enzymes, plants an fuels. 4) Human regulation and reproduction. Assessed though 3assignments a) The control of heart rate and breathing rate by the nervous system b) Homeostasis -including water, sugar and temperature c) Reproduction – including oogenesis and spermatogenesis How will I learn? Today’s BTEC Nationals are demanding, as you would expect of the most respected applied learning qualification in the UK. You will have to choose and complete a range of units, be organised, take some assessments that we will set and mark, and keep a portfolio of your assignments.
