A Level Historians can be expected to learn the subject in a variety of ways. Students will build on skills and concepts learned in KS3 and KS4 adding depth, nuance and a greater understanding of historiography. Students will learn the subject through in class lessons but will also be expected to undertake a great deal of wider reading in the subject, much of which is guided by the subject teachers. Top achievers will apply their reading throughout the course.
GCSE History grade 6 All students need to have at least 5 GCSEs at 9 to 5 including English at Grade 5 AND Maths at a level 4 (includes Level 2 Vocational at Merit or Distinction)
How will I be assessed? Students will be regularly assessed during lessons and in assessments. There are 2 exams at the end of year 12 – each 1 hours 30 minutes and 2 exams at the end of year 13 – each 2 hours and 30 minutes. Students also complete a coursework essay of between 3000-4000 words. Students are regularly assessed on both their knowledge and on their ability to respond to the various question formats in the exams.
