
Psychology is the study of human behaviour. It has roots in health care and the scientific method, helping uncover the processes of the mind. Through research and observation, psychologists can help answer questions about the brain's mysteries and improve mental health standards for communities. The field is important because it offers answers to the question, “What makes humans tick?” Students are required to adopt a very critical and analytical approach to every theory covered, no matter how controversial and shocking it may be. Students will be required to be proactive and complete note taking independently and ahead of the lesson in order to discuss some of the psychological themes studied. Extended writing answers will require skills of analysis, evaluation, application and effective written communication. Topics include how humans conform to social roles; how our memory works, why we forget and the reliability of eye witness testimony. psychopathology, research methods, theories of sexual attraction and how and why romantic relationships are formed and forensics. Psychology incorporates the most challenging aspects of a variety of subjects such as Science, Maths and English. It is a desirable qualification for a wide range of degrees from Neuroscience to Medicine, Law, Sociology and Business.
