
Students following this course explore product design in its widest sense, through coursework projects and theoretical knowledge. Subjects covered during the Product Design course include iterative design, technical illustration and high level design sketching with a focus on industrial and commercial practices to understand materials and manufacturing techniques. Students will work on iterative design briefs and challenges such as sustainability, architecture, disaster relief and management, whilst exploring the work of renowned designers and design movements. There is a huge amount of flexibility in how these briefs are tackled and this course provides a real step from GCSE.
A minimum of five GCSE passes grade 5 or above including English and Maths plus grade 6 in a related subject. Although not essential, GCSE Design Technology or an engineering qualification are preferred.
