Course summary

By taking this course, students will develop an understanding of the fundamental principles of computing and develop their ability to analyse problems through practical experience, including writing programs. Students will develop the ability to evaluate the individual, social, legal and cultural opportunities and risks of digital technology as well as using mathematical skills related to algebra, algorithms, and number bases. Programming will form a fundamental part of the course and will give students the opportunity to plan, model and simulate scenarios to resolve problems and offer solutions.

A minimum of five GCSE passes grade 5 or above including English and Maths plus grade 6 in computer science or another science subject. There is no requirement to have studied computer science at GCSE but you should have a general interest in the subject that you can talk about.
